The best way to greet is to say, "Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, and blessings be upon you." But in some traditions, after "Blessing", there is also the addition of "Vamghafarta", etc. What is its status? Is it normal flow or not? Below is a research and scholarly discussion in this regard.
If it is a matter of Sunnah, then it is masnun not to add “salaam alaikum wa rahmatullah wa barakata”. “Blessed” is the end of salaam and adding it is against the Sunnah.
1. It is narrated on the authority of Aisha that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:
O Ayesha! This was Jibreel, he is greeting you. I said: Peace be upon him and mercy be upon him. Hazrat Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) began to add to it. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: Peace be upon you. Read (the above verse) (Allah's mercy and blessings be upon you, O Ahlul Bayt!
2. Imam Malik (may Allaah have mercy on him) narrated from Muhammad ibn 'Amr ibn' Ataa 'in al-Mawta' with a clear chain of transmission:
I was sitting next to Hazrat Ibn Abbas. A Yemeni man came to you and greeted you as follows: Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you. Lost, said: Who is? People said: There is a Yemeni man who keeps coming to you. When the people introduced him, Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Peace be upon you, peace be upon you, peace be upon you."
3. The same narration has been narrated by Imam Bayhaqi in Sha'b-ul-Iman.
A questioner came and greeted you and said: Peace be upon you and mercy be upon you and blessings and forgiveness and mercy and counted it from him (ie considered forgiveness and forgiveness as part of peace). Then Ibn Abbas said: What is this peace? Wrath, even redness and paradise. What kind of peace is this? And they became angry. Until your face turned red, then your son Ali said to you: Abajan! This is a question to be asked. He said: “Allah is the limit of peace, and the same is the glory of Allah.” Then he said, Yes, then read the verse, may God have mercy on you, Ahl al-Bayt.
4. Zahra Ibn Ma'bad says: Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Blessings be upon you.
5. A man greeted Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, blessings and forgiveness, then Ibn Umar rebuked him and said: As is the case, if it is to the end, it is enough for you to say “Allah Almighty”. Then we came to "Blessed", which Allah Almighty said (Ibn Umar meant the same verse that was passed above).
6. It is narrated on the authority of Yahya bin Saeed that a person greeted Hazrat Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) as follows: Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, blessings be upon you, guidance be upon you. Ibn Umar replied: May it be upon you a thousand times. The narrator says: Ibn 'Umar gave such an answer because he disliked the method of salutation (as if it was a sarcastic answer) because he had added al-ghadiyat after the blessing.
7. The narration of Imran ibn Husain has been narrated in the past, in which there is a mention of Salam alaikum wa Rahmatullah wa Barakatah, on which thirty virtues are found, there is no mention of some words after it.
8. Sahib Muntaqi Allama Baji writes: There are three components of Salam.
1. Peace be upon you
2. And may God have mercy on him
3. Blessed.
It is enough for one person to be content with one or two parts, and whoever combines the three parts has achieved the goal, and when the goal is achieved, it is not right to add to it.
9. Imam Muhammad has written in Muwatta Muhammad: If he says: Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon you, If the follower of the Sunnah is the best, that is, if the one who greets you greets you in this way, peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings be upon him, then he should stop there and not increase it. Because following the Sunnah is better anyway.
And Allama Lucknowi, the commentator of Mutta Imam Muhammad, has written in the commentary of this saying:
There is a lot of action in bid'ah, and a little action in Sunnah is better than a little action, that is, the action of Sunnah, even if it is a little, is better than an excess in bid'ah. So it is clear that the increase in blessings is absolutely against the Sunnah. Tilak Ushra Kamla ة
From the above descriptions, it is known that the lowest degree of peace is Salam alaikum, ten virtues are found on it and if it is called Salam alaikum and Rahmatullah, then twenty virtues and Salam alaikum and Rahmatullah and Barakatah are the highest degree of Salam, thirty virtues on it. And the same is true of the answer; However, the answer should always be given in good words rather than salaam, that is, if someone says only salaam alaikum, then it is better to say salaam alaikum salam wa rahmatullah From the very beginning, he said, "Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, and blessings be upon you." Because the blessed beginning and the answer is the limit of Salam and it is not correct to cross the limit considering it as Sunnah.
In addition to the above arguments, there is other evidence of this problem.
1. In Tashahhud, the words of Salam also end with “Blessed”: Peace be upon you, this is the Prophet, and may Allah have mercy on him.
2. The general words of salaam after leaving the prayers, which are proven by many authentic ahaadeeth, are up to Rahmatullah; While in some hadiths, blessings are also proved. But there is no tradition of increasing blessings.
3. Imam Bayhaqi has narrated the narration of Zahra bin Ma'bad in Sha'b-ul-Iman:
A man greeted 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr as follows: Peace be upon you and God's mercy and blessings.' Urwah said: He did not leave any virtue for us. Of course, peace is the ultimate blessing.
A scholarly review of the traditions in which "Blessings" is added.
There are some narrations in the books of hadith which prove the addition of "blessings". The following are some of the narrations:
1. Another man came and said: Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, blessings and forgiveness. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: There are forty virtues (for them) and he said: This is how virtue and reward increase.
Abu Dawud has mentioned this narration continuously after the narration which mentions the meeting of thirty virtues, the narrator of which is Hazrat Imran ibn Husain (may Allah be pleased with him), the narrator of the above mentioned hadith is Mu'adh ibn Anas (may Allah be pleased with him). And there is the addition of forgiveness, and there is mention of forty good deeds.
But this hadeeth is not scientifically arguable. Sahib Ojz al-Masalik, after quoting this hadeeth, wrote: Allama al-Mundhari says: This hadeeth is da'eef. Because one of the narrators of the hadith is the late Abu Rahim ibn Maimun, his narrations are not arguable.
The other narrator of this hadith is Sahl ibn Mu'adh, who was also called weak by Yahya ibn Mu'in. Although Ibn Habban has mentioned them in Saqqat.
The narrator of the hadith, Ibn Abi Maryam, has said about the other narrator, Nafi 'Ibn Yazid, in the chain of transmission: I think that I have heard from Nafi' ibn Yazid, that is, he has not stated the determination and certainty of hearing. So Allama Ibn Qayyim writes:
It has now been concluded that the aforesaid narration of Abu Dawud is weak, and cannot be argued against the narrations in which the blessings are not added or prohibited.
2. It is narrated from Hazrat Anas (RA) that a herdsman used to pass by the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and he used to greet him like this: “Peace be upon you or the Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) would reply: Peace be upon you, mercy be upon you, blessings be upon you, forgiveness be upon you.
In this hadeeth, there is an addition of two words, “forgiveness” and “forgiveness”. But the above hadith is weak. Read the opinions of the researchers:
In short, the above-mentioned hadith is even weaker than the hadith of Abu Dawud, and according to Ibn Hajar: its chain of transmission is the same, so the argument for the addition of blessings is not correct.
These are some of the narrations that have been narrated about the permissibility of the addition of Salat and Salam in response to Salam and forgiveness, etc. Who are found to be scientifically weak; On the other hand, the traditions of greetings and replies of greetings ending in "blessings" and adding to it have come to the fore. So now the problem has been proved that in both the beginning and the answer, the last limit of the salutation is the blessing and this is the masnun.
Opinion of Hafiz Ibn Hajar
Hafiz Ibn Hajar, the commentator of Bukhari, while discussing these traditions, wrote at the end:
The narrations which have been called weak by the narrators, if they are collected and their evidences and observations are looked at, then at least it can be proved that it is permissible to add “As-Salamu Alaikum Warrahmatullah Wa Barakata”.
Opinion of Shaykh-ul-Hadeeth Maulana Zakaria (may Allah have mercy on him):
These traditions can be added to the maximum "blessings"; But the meaning of the Sunnah of Salam is the same traditions which show that the word "barakatah" should not be added. The only thing left is that the narration of Abu Dawud in which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) spoke of attaining forty virtues with the addition of “Wamghafarta” is due to a specific situation or condition.
It happens that the reward of an action is determined and it sometimes gets more reward due to an illness; But the problem does not revolve around this temporary thing. Rather, the first method is the usual and masnun, the narration of Nazeer Sahih Muslim, which is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): that one of the Companions joined the prayer line at that time. While his breath was blowing, he said: Allahu Akbar, Alhamdulillah Hamda Kathira Tayyiba Mubaraka Fih. It is in this narration that the Holy Prophet said: ۔
According to the narration of Bukhari, such an incident took place in the nation and the Holy Prophet (sws) said: About thirty angels were ahead in taking this word.
And it is narrated in Nisa'i that behind him, a Companion was praying when he sneezed. He said, "Praise be to Allaah. Praise be to Allaah. Praise be to Allaah. Praise be to Allaah."
Whether the incident is of takbeer tahrimah or of the nation or of sneezing in prayers, it is so certain that on these occasions, the utterance of these words is not routine and masnun. However, the special virtue of this dhikr has been mentioned by the Holy Prophet (sws). Therefore, in spite of the virtue of this dhikr here, it does not have to be masnun, in the same way the virtue of forty virtues which has been mentioned due to the addition of "blessings" does not have to be masnun. The point is, disagreements can be resolved as to whether or not there is a difference.
Increased justification is proven; However, there is disagreement about the Sunnah of increase, and the Sunnah is that it should not be increased, although it is permissible; The difference between Jawaz and Sunnah should be remembered.
